The Emergency Financial Assistance and Zakat Program provides temporary emergency financial assistance to eligible individuals and families residing in Southern California.
Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam, which entails the transfer of wealth from the rich to the poor. Every sane adult Muslim who makes over a certain amount of money is required to donate 2.5% of their wealth to those in need. By contributing to AccessCal’s Emergency Financial Assistance and Zakat program, your money is directly used to provide immediate relief to underserved individuals and families.
The program’s goal is to help meet the basic needs of families and individuals while simultaneously assist them in attaining self-sufficiency through employment and personal responsibility. Financial assistance is provided for the following on a case-by-case basis:
• Rental assistance
• Gas vouchers
• Motel vouchers
• Food vouchers
• Prescription medication
• Bus passes
• Vocational training and tuition
Eligible individuals and families may receive a one-time financial disbursement. Eligibility is based on guidelines and proof of documentation. This program is strictly community funded with limited availability. Pre-booked appointments are mandatory. This program is eligible for zakat donations and has a separate bank account associated with it.
